Dreaming Bull at The Silverlake Lounge, 11-3-14 Concert Review

Dreaming Bull performing "Lover Street"
Dreaming Bull began its residency at The Silverlake Lounge last night with a set of fun, high-energy grooves. This is a band that always puts me in a good mood. The band’s lineup has changed a bit since I last saw them, with the addition of keyboards, and that instrument definitely adds something delicious to their sound. I especially love some of the moments when the flute and keys are working together, as in “Bull Be Coming.”

They kicked off their set with “Lover Street,” the opening track on their CD, and a good way to get things moving. I love the vocal part, “Loving’s for free.” They followed that with “Hippie Hobo,” one of my favorites. It opens with such a great groove. And then onto "Feed Us."

The set featured mostly material from their self-titled full-length CD. But they also played a couple of new tunes. “Pulling The Plug,” one of the new tunes, begins with a great groove on drums, bass and keys. But the girls really steal this one, and perhaps my favorite moment in this fun tune is when they sing, “So much chitter chatter, chitter chatter.” By the way, today is Kristen’s birthday, and last night the band did a short funky birthday jam for her.

The other new tune was a strange and wild version of War's “Low Rider,” which they call “Bull Rida.” “Take a little trip with me.” They ended their set with “The Spell.”

Dreaming Bull has a new EP in the works. Also, they’re going to be shooting a segment for Last Call With Carson Daly soon. This is a band to keep an eye on. They will be performing the next few Mondays at The Silverlake Lounge, so if you’re able, you should definitely check them out. The Silverlake Lounge is kind of a cool venue, located at 2906 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles. Just be aware that the bar is cash only, so be prepared.

Here are a few photos from last night:
