The Brian Kinler Band did an excellent show last night at Don't Tell Mama in West Hollywood, California. Before "Makes Me Smile," Brian told the story of meeting his partner at
that very venue thirteen years ago. So yes, it was that kind of special
night. Early in the set they played a few songs from the latest CD, Not Your Everyday Amateur, including "Open All Night," "The Fall" and "Mama's Gumbo Pot." Francesca Capasso joined the band on vocals for several songs, including "Lady Marmalade," and those tunes were among the many highlights of the night. (Geez, she even made "Happy Birthday To You" sound good, when she sang it a cappella to three people who were celebrating birthdays.) The band did a seriously fun version of "Don't Leave Me This Way," with a nice jam.
