I was going through some things and found these two food tickets from the Mimosa Music Series. And suddenly I was lost in memories of some wonderful shows. What a great concert series that was. It was held on Sundays in the upstairs room at the Federal Bar in North Hollywood, and hosted by Gary Calamar. You could order breakfast and catch some absolutely fantastic music, and be home in the early afternoon. Among those I saw play the series were James McMurtry, Peter Himmelman, I See Hawks In L.A., Bird Streets, Paul Kelly, Chris Price, Chris Pierce, Evie Sands, Dime Box Band, Permanent Green Light, The Dustbowl Revival, Cindy Lee Berryhill, Alice Wallace, Jesika Von Rabbit, The HawtThorns, Love, Freedy Johnston, Amy Raasch, Nina Diaz, Charlie Faye & The Fayettes, Peter Holsapple & Chris Stamey, Dave Alvin & Phil Alvin, and Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore. Often, but not always, the artists would be promoting a new album, and afterward would hang out, signing copies and chatting about the album. There was a cool, laid-back atmosphere. I was sad when that series came to an end. And now the Federal Bar itself is no longer open. What I can’t fathom is how these two tickets went unused.
