Ted Russell Kamp Releases "California Son" On Vinyl

Ted Russell Kamp played a special duo show with guitarist Billy Watts last night at Ireland's 32. And making the evening even more special, it turned out that vinyl copies of his California Son album had arrived, and so they were available for the first time. Thus the night became a sort of vinyl release celebration, though an unexpected one. The album, as you might recall, was released on CD in March of 2024. Due to the relative space limitations of vinyl compared to compact disc, two of the CD's twelve songs were left off the record. But my favorites are on it, including "Shine On," which he wrote with Rob Waller and Paul Lacques of I See Hawks In L.A. (the Hawks also perform on that track), and "Hangin' On Blues." From what I gathered at the show last night, this is his first album to be released on vinyl. He opened the show, however, with an older song, "Last Drop," which was included on his Night Owl album. Here are a few photos from the first set, which featured some excellent original material, including "Hangin' On Blues," "Waste A Little Time With Me" and "Home Away From Home," along with a cover of Bob Dylan's "She Belongs To Me."
