It was a good time last night at Maui Sugar Mill Saloon. Billed as “An Acoustic Mess,” the night included sets by Sunset Junction Band, Pat Todd, and Paul Mars Black. Both Pat Todd and Paul Mars Black performed solo acoustic sets (though Paul Mars Black had a little help at the end). I haven’t yet seen Pat Todd & The Rankoutsiders in concert, and so wasn’t sure what to expect from Pat Todd’s set. But what really struck me was his songwriting. He joked about his song choices not being the most cheerful of numbers, and that was true, but the lyrics were excellent, and I found myself completely engrossed in each song. His set included “Where Is She Now,” “Get Up On It,” “The Ambulance Is Here,” among several others. The encore was “Thanks For The Misery.” Here are a few photos:
