Today i listened to "Rawhide's Clint Eastwood Sings Cowboy Favorites," an album that was recorded in 1963 and will finally be released on CD June 22, 2010. I listened to it three or four times today, and wrote a review, which i posted on Suite101.

My favorite tracks on this album are:
- "Searching For Somewhere"
- "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" (this is my vote for best song on the album)
- "San Antonio Rose"
- "Don't Fence Me In"
- "Are You Satisfied"
This album is one of the six initial releases of classic Cameo Parkway albums. I've now reviewed five of them. The only one i haven't reviewed is the Bobby Rydell one. All six are scheduled to be released June 22, 2010.

Today's Music
Today i've been listening to the Grateful Dead. As you're probably aware, i am a big fan of that band, and have written a lot of reviews of various releases, especially the Dick's Picks series. Today i listened to Volume One in that series, and the first disc of Volume Twenty-One. I'll be posting reviews of both of those volumes in the coming weeks.
Tomorrow i plan on listening to the Clint Eastwood CD and writing my review of it.
And soon i should be receiving the Judy Collins albums. I wasn't even aware of this until recently, but a lot of Judy Collins CDs have gone out of print. Some are pretty expensive on Amazon. Well, if you have been thinking about purchasing one of those CDs for $60 or $100 or even $300, save your money. Nine of her albums are going to be re-released in a few months. And i will be writing reviews of them. I'm really excited about these releases, especially because she does several Leonard Cohen covers.

Dave Coffin: "The King Is Dead" (2010)
I posted my review of the new Dave Coffin CD on Suite 101.

It's really good. For those of you in Boston, the CD release party is June 12 at The Lizard Lounge, a venue that i like. The actual official release date is June 15th.
His CD is the only one i've listened to so far today, because i've been reading a book on the history of performances of A Midsummer Night's Dream.

Today's Music
Right now I'm listening to the new Dave Coffin CD, which is titled "The King Is Dead." And I'm totally enjoying it. Guess what - Duke Levine is on this CD. What a surprise. Do they ever let that guy out of the studio? My guess is that he has to play on at least fifty albums a month, and then once he's met that obligation, he's allowed to go to Passim or some place and perform a few songs in concert. But of course he has to be back in the studio by midnight, and they then lock him in there for the night, to make sure he doesn't escape and become a bank manager or lawyer or something.
Anyway, I'll be writing a review of this CD soon.
I'll also be writing a review of a Clint Eastwood album. Yes, that's right. Clint Eastwood Sings Cowboy Favorites. It's being released on CD next month (it was originally released in 1963). I love that he does "Tumbling Tumbleweeds" on it. Maybe he should go back to doing cowboy tunes and stop releasing bad to mediocre films like Gran Torino and Changeling.

Introduction To New Blog
Hello, music lovers. This blog is intended as a companion piece to my online music articles. As many of you know, I attend a lot of concerts. I also have a fairly large music collection. Whenever possible, I write reviews of my albums, as well as of the concerts that I attend. In this blog, I'll include more loosely written notes on concerts and bands, and whatever else occurs to me with regards to music.
I may also include updates on my documentary film project. Yes, I'm working with a close friend on a documentary about an amazing Los Angeles band. More on that later.
I will also try to alert people to upcoming concerts and CD releases. The majority of concert news will of course be related to Los Angeles bands and venues, as that is where I currently reside. But it will not be limited to just L.A. news.
I hope this blog will help turn people on to new music and new bands, and possibly also revive interest in older bands. There is a lot of great music out there, folks.
