The Grownup Noise Hits The Road

The Grownup Noise, a band i saw in Boston last year and enjoyed, is doing a show at the Lizard Lounge on the 31st. After that, they're hitting the road. Here is the band's tour schedule:

Black Sabbath Compilation Review

I finished my article about the new compilation titled "Black Sabbath: The Secret Musical History Of Black-Jewish Relations." Here is the link: http://jazz.suite101.com/article.cfm/black-sabbath-compilation-cd-2010-release -- the CD is scheduled to be released September 14th.

Allan Sherman

You might not think you know Allan Sherman. But you do. He's the guy that did the song, "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah." You know, the song that's a letter from camp, the one where his bunkmate has malaria.

Anyway, the guy was comedy superstar, and Collector's Choice Music is reissuing his eight Warner Bros. albums. Hurrah! These CDs are scheduled to be released September 7th. I have four of them, and i'll be reviewing them soon. (And yes, i have the one with "Hello Muddah, Hello Fadduh.")

New CD Releases

There are a few CDs that are coming out soon that you should be aware of:

1. ODi: "Maslow's Songbook" - This is the debut album by the Irish singer/songwriter, and it's excellent. Here is a link to my review: http://folkmusic.suite101.com/article.cfm/odi-maslows-songbook-2010-cd-review. It's scheduled to be released on August 23rd.
2. Black Sabbath: The Secret Musical History Of Black-Jewish Relations - This is the most interesting compilation i've listened to in years. It's a compilation of black artists covering Jewish songs, and includes Billie Holiday, Cab Calloway and Eartha Kitt, as well as The Temptations doing "Fiddler On The Roof Medley." Seriously. It's scheduled to be released on September 14th. I'll be posting a review of this CD soon.
   
3. Lucky Peterson: "You Can Always Turn Around" - This is a really cool blues/folk/rock album. It's scheduled to be released on September 28th. I will posting a review of this one soon.

The Evangenitals at Cinema Bar

The Evangenitals did an incredible set of music at Cinema Bar tonight. It was surprising, considering that their fiddle player, Andrea Baker, was unable to attend, and that their regular accordion player, Ari DeSano, was not there either. In addition, there was a new bass player (he's played with the band for the last few shows). So one might think that the set would be a bit uneven or messy. Not the case. It was a fantastic set, and featured two new songs.

Heather Quay & Jon Svetkey

While getting a few things done before the Bullied By Strings show tonight, i'm listening to a CD by Heather Quay & Jon Svetkey. And i just have to say that their version of "Run To Me" is incredible. Jon does some things vocally that i've never heard from him before. Totally blew me away.
